Pastor James "Jimmy" H. Jarvis

Pastor James “Jimmy” H. Jarvis, age 68, of Claysville, went to heaven Sunday, January 28, 2024, peacefully in his home, following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma.

Born October 30, 1955, in Gassaway, WV., son of the late Howard Kermit and Mary Margaret (Mullins) Jarvis.

Jimmy graduated from West Greene High School in 1973, where he was an accomplished athlete and still holds the record in shotput that he set in 1973 at 54 feet and 6 inches. He was the Pastor of Rogersville Christian Church – The Place of Grace, he loved his congregation dearly. Jimmy married Jeanie M. Barnhart on November 13, 1981, and they were happily married for 35 years until she made her journey to heaven on October 21, 2017. Throughout his life, Jimmy had many jobs including a guard at the Moundsville Penitentiary, owner of Big Jim’s Restaurant, drove for Overnight, Shafer, and Hyway Trucking Companies, and was an independent hotshot truck driver.  He retired in 2019 after several years with the teamsters Local #491. Jimmy’s hobbies were hunting, going to his camper, sitting by the fire, and spending time with his dog and family. His greatest joy was spreading the gospel of Jesus through his ministry.

Jimmy is survived by his only daughter, Jamie (Michael Gentile) Jarvis, of Claysville; two grandsons, Elijah and Matthew Gentile; two brothers, Robert (Sharon) Jarvis, of Indiana and Donald (Connie) Jarvis, of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 2-8 PM at the Rogersville Christian Church – Place of Grace, 3226 W. Roy Furman Hwy. Rogersville, PA 15359. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the church with Rev. Bruce R. Judy, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
