Nila Mae Mounts

Nila Mae (Salsberry) Mounts, 89, of Washington, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, surrounded by family. Her passing followed a lengthy illness and a lifetime centered on faith and family.

She was born February 7, 1927, in Pancake, a daughter of the late Herbert Elvin and Bertha Agnes Pease Salsberry.

Mrs. Mounts was a 1945 graduate of Trinity High School, a resident of Buffalo Township since 1948, and a longtime member of Claysville United Presbyterian Church.

She was once employed by Bell Telephone as an operator, and later by Krency’s Bakery as a cake decorator. In addition to raising her own sons, she baby-sat her grandchildren and other family members for much of her life.

At home, she enjoyed baking and cooking, and was known by family and friends for her elaborate cookie trays, pies, cakes and candy. Her hobbies also included gardening, word searches, embroidery and paint-by-number.

Surviving are a son, Jerry (Patricia) Mounts of Claysville; two grandchildren, Christopher (Erika) Mounts of Waynesboro and Katie Mounts (Nick Roth) of Boston, Mass.; a sister, Vivian Holden of Merrillville, Ind.; a brother, Duane (Alma Jean) Salsberry of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Donna (Bill) Rhoades of West Alexander; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Frank C. Mounts, who passed away August 3, 1976; a son, Daun Wayne Mounts in 1972; a grandson, Daun Robert Mounts, who died in infancy; three brothers, Kenneth, Elvin and Lloyd Salsberry; and a sister, Eleanor Wood.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Claysville United Presbyterian Church, 134 Wayne Street, Claysville, PA 15323, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29, with the Rev. Jerome Creach and Chaplain Keith Meier officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Claysville United Presbyterian Church, Amedisys Hospice, or Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center.
