Linley E. "Gene" Courtwright, 77, of Waynesburg, Pa. died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 10:00p.m. in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg after being in failing health for the past year.He was born September 5, 1933 in Aleppo Twp. Greene Co. Pa. a son of the late Robert Linley and Edith K. Glover Courtwright.Mr. Courtwright had resided in Shreveport, LA. for 30 years prior to returning to Greene Co. in 1993.He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg.Mr. Courtwright was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as SP3 with Co B, 1st Medical Tank Bn, 68th Armored Division under General Patton.He was a member of the American Legion Post 948 in Wormleysburg, Pa. and a former member of the Moose and Elks lodges both in Waynesburg.Mr. Courtwright was employed by Milbar Hydro Test Inc., of Shreveport, LA. for 30 years prior to retiring as a foreman in 1993.Surviving are two sisters, Karen S. Henry of Waynesburg and Peggy, wife of Burdette Gallentine of Moundsville, W. Va.; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents are four brothers, William J., Harry D., Robert Lee and Roger L. Courtwright; a sister, Ruth Ellen Whipkey.Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army, the American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. Post 4753 and the D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg.The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
