Lillian Dell (Miller) Marling, age 99 1/4, of New Freeport, PA, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 with family by her side.
She meant the world to her family and her spirit is carried on by all that knew and loved her.
Born on May 1, 1918, in Deep Valley, PA, Lillian is the only daughter of the late Lloyd P. and Nell (Anderson) Miller.
In 1942, Lillian took a train from Cameron WV to Yuma Arizona to marry the love of her life James (Jim) Marling who passed away in 2007. The couple spent 65 wonderful years together. Before she married, she was employed at Cameron Pottery. In 1961, she and her husband operated the Marling’s Store in Garrison, PA until retiring in 1981. She attended church and was a Sunday School teacher at the former Grandview Methodist Church in Garrison, PA. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Lillian during her 99 ¼ years, among them to be resourceful and nurturing. Lillian was very crafty; she loved to crochet, quilt by hand, gardening and baking. At one time she hand sewed aprons for everyone in town. She monogramed the names on the FFA jackets for the local boys as well, all by hand. She was known for her award winning pies, having the best pie crust around. The only time she sat down was to sew or peel potatoes. Her smile was infections, her winks and witty remarks were never in short supply. She was very soft spoken and above all, she was a caring and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was called Grandma Lillian by Colton and Bryce.
Lillian’s last few months were made easier with the care she received from her granddaughter Michelle Anderson and her great grandsons, Colton and Bryce, Amedisys Hospice, her Dear Friend Mary Jennewine, Sandy Huffman and the Scott Miller family.
She is survived by her son, J.B. (Sandra) Marling, of New Freeport, PA; granddaughter, Michelle (Larry) Anderson, of Holbrook, PA; two great grandsons, Colton and Bryce Anderson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jenny Lynn Marling in 2004; six brothers, Howard, Forrest, Grant, Karroll, Kay and Ernest; Lillian was the last surviving member of her siblings.
