Kathryn "Katie" Grimes

Kathryn “Katie” Grimes, age 97, of Waynesburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 22, 2017 with her family by her side.

Born on November 1, 1919 in Weston, WV, she is the daughter of the late George Mason and Malinda “Linda” (Skinner) Myers, Sr.

Kathryn graduated from Center Township High School in the class of 1937. On June 5, 1937 she married George Orndoff Grimes. They resided in Rogersville until 1941 then moved to Eastview thereafter. Kathryn was an active, lifelong member of the Throckmorton United Methodist Church in East View where she served as past secretary, treasurer, auditor and the President of the Throckmorton United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Waynesburg O.E.S. Emerald Chapter #135. For several years, she was an auditor for Franklin Township. Kathryn also volunteered as a Franklin Township Board of Elections officer for many years. She enjoyed raising a garden every year, playing card games, camping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda “Pug” (Allen) Smith, of Masontown, PA; grandchildren, Michelle (Fred) Voithofer, Amy Smith, Beth (Roy) Beck, Sarah Grimes Lawrence, Michael Douglas Grimes Lawrence, Rich Hunnell; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Carolyn (Bill) Grimes and Onita (Chuck) Grimes; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Orndoff Grimes on February 14, 2006; her son Edwin Michael Grimes; grandson, Douglas Allen Smith; sisters, Sadie Myers, Margaret Powell and Mary Throckmorton; brothers, Paul, Mathew, Samuel, George Myers, Jr.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 11a.m.-2 p.m. at the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC., 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359. (724) 499-5181 A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Cynthia Deter, officiating. A graveside service and burial at Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township, PA.
