Joseph L. "Bud" Wood, 90, of West Alexander,(West Finley Twp.) Pa. died at 11:12 a.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 in the Kade Nursing Home, in Washington, Pa. after being in failing health for the past several years.He was born in West Finley Twp. a son of the late Florn "Pete" L. and Mary Alice Kennedy Wood and had resided in the West Finley area all his life.Mr. Wood was a member of the Windy Gap Presbyterian Church in West Finley Twp.He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a private first class with the U.S. Army in the 531st Field Artillery, and awarded the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbons with 2 bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with l bronze star, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.Mr. Wood was employed from 1951 until his retirement in 1981 as a laborer and in the shipping department by the former Plasteel Products, Inc. in Washington, Pa. He was a member of the U.S.W.A. Local 2779 in Washington and a former member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639.Mr. Wood was also a self employed farmer for most of his adult life, who enjoyed hunting as long as his health permitted and raising hereford cattle. On July 29, 1938 he married Yula Elizabeth "Midge" Miller who died February 5, 2000.Surviving are two sons, Richard L. Wood of Sand Hill, W.Va. and Donald, husband of Tonia Wood of Dallas, W.Va.; a daughter, Betty Jane, wife of Richard Dye of West Alexander, Pa.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are a son, Kenneth E. Wood who died in infancy; a brother, Delbert Wood.Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and the James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639 of Claysville.
