John R. Orum, 82, of Sycamore, Pa. died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa.He was born March 15, 1928 in Wheeling, W.Va. a son of the late James Edward and Josephine Willkie Orum and has resided in the Sycamore area since 1986.Mr. Orum was a 23 year veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces where he served during World War II, Korea and Viet Nam, and was discharged as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army on March 15, 1988.He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 330 and the D.A.V. Post 123, both in Waynesburg and was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 4753 and Eagles Club, both in Waynesburg.Mr. Orum looked forward to working his garden in the spring of the year, his dogs, and was known for baking bread, buns and pies for friends and family.On December 13, 1963 he married Irmgard Kiermeier who died in 1998.Surviving are a son, Lewis J. Orum at home; two daughters, Linda, wife of Kenneth McGowan of Wind Ridge and Teresa, wife of Ron Moore of Washington, Pa.; a brother, Kenneth Orum of Somerset, Ohio; four sisters, Lucille Crane of Florida, Mary Martin of Newark, Ohio, Charliene Pennington of Cleveland, Ohio and Betty Elder of Wheeling, W.V.; four grandchildren.Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are two brothers, James E. and William Orum; one sister, Virginia Chambers.Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until time of funeral and committal services at 3 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 with Rev. William Parker officiating in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by representatives of the U.S. Army, the American Legion Post 330, D.A.V. Post 123 and the V.F.W. Post 4753 all of Waynesburg.
