Jean Beglin

Jean Gorby Beglin, 81, of Washington, Pa. died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008 in the Donnell House, Washington, Pa. after a lengthy illness. She was born on August 26, 1927 in West Alexander, Pa., a daughter of the late William Blaine Gorby, Jr. and Ethel May Rhoades Gorby and had been a resident of West Alexander all her life prior to moving to Buffalo Twp. in 1965. Mrs. Beglin has been a member of the West Alexander Presbyterian Church for the past 80 years and was a Sunday school teacher for 25 years. She was a 1945 graduate of West Alexander High School and a graduate of the Elliot School of Business in Wheeling, W. Va. Mrs. Beglin was a member of the Evening Star Chapter 187 of Claysville, O.E.S. and the Interstate Horse Association. She enjoyed Penn State football, the Steelers and the Pirates, and going to horse shows when her husband served as the ringmaster and for 16 years she along with her husband and daughter attended the Preakness Horse Race in Baltimore, Md. In 1949, she and five high school friends represented the Claysville Grange in a national contest for choral singing groups in Sacramento, Ca.., where they finished in 1st place. Mrs. Beglin was employed as a secretary by Jessop Steel Corp. in Washington, Pa. for 25 years. Surviving is her husband, Ernest D. Beglin; a daughter, Lucinda Kerns of Centreville, Va.; a son, Dr. Randall Kerns, husband of Barbara Kerns, of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Dr. Donald Gorby, husband of Dorothy Gorby, of Naples, Fl.; a sister, Ann Gorby Church of Pittsburgh, Pa. and three granddaughters, Kaitlin Melissa Kerns of New York, N.Y, Hannah Elizabeth Kerns and Alexandra Jean Kerns both of Charleston, S.C. Deceased in addition to her parents are two brothers William Blaine Gorby, Jr. and Thomas Gorby.
