James T. Phillips

James T. “Jim” Phillips, age 88, Duncannon, formerly of Marysville, passed away Friday March 2, 2018, in Kinkora Pythian Home.

Born June 7, 1929, in Holbrook, PA, the oldest son of the late W.B. and Nelle (Smith) Phillips.
Jim was educated in the Jackson Township (now West Greene) schools system. He graduated from Waynesburg High School Class of 1947. Jim attended Waynesburg College in 1948, for one year, during college, he became known as “James T.” He entered Federal Civil Service in our Nation’s Capital on November 18, 1963, with employment at U.S. Coast Guard- Civilian Branch. Jim’s career began as a clerk typist and culminated as a contract specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture 19 years later. Jim returned to Marysville in 1983. He enjoyed playing the piano and maintained his love of music throughout his life. Jim was especially fond of playing piano at Valley Chapel Church, which he did for 20 years. He was active in the community and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Buehler Lodge #269 Knights of Pythias, where he held many offices, Marysville-Rye Senior Center, Shermanata Grange, the Golden Age Club, the National Association Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 102, Harrisburg, PA, and the American Lighthouse Association. Jim was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

Jim is survived by a brother, D.K. (Betty) Phillips; sister-in-law, Lois Phillips; eight nieces, Diane, Linda, Lisa, Sharon, Tammy, Lori, Kim, and Libby; seven nephews, Bill, Jake, Gary, John, Kenny, Bill, and Robert; many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, a brother, John Phillips; four half-brothers, Jack, David, Nelson, and Ralph; four half-sisters, Sara, Helen, Kathryn, and Dorothy; one niece, Jane; two great nieces, Kelly and Heidi.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in the Wesley United Methodist Church, 450 Sylvan St. Marysville, PA.

Friends will be received Friday, March 9, 2018 from 11:00 – 1:00 P.M. at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy. Rogersville, PA 15359. Telephone: 724-499-5181. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Gary Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill (Rice’s) Cemetery, Gilmore Twp., PA.
