Jack Barnhart, 78, of Graysville, Pa. died unexpectedly at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa.He was born January 22, 1926 in Graysville, Pa. a son of William Wilson and Lillian Annette Smith Barnhart and had resided in the Graysville area all his life.Mr. Barnhart attended Richhill Township schools.He was employed as a clerk at what is now known as the Graysville Country Store at the time of his death and had been employed at the store by several previous owners most of his working life.Mr. Barnhart was a veteran of World War II where he served as a T/5 with the U.S. Army at the 2nd Base Post Office and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon and served with the U.S. Air Force as a Pvt. receiving the Berlin Airlift Medal.He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.Mr.Barnhart received a citation recognizing his military efforts from the Commonwealth of Pa. House of Representatives on January 29, 1992.Surviving are a sister, Marjorie B. Kissell of Washington; his companion of over 40 years, Helen Ealy of Graysville; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents are three brothers, Charles, Shirl and Richard Barnhart; three sisters, Ruth Owen, Betty Nelson and Vivian Miller.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. Post 4793 and the D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg.
