Herschel Eugene Moore

Herschel Eugene Moore, age 77, of Waynesburg, PA, formerly of Holbrook, PA, passed away at home on Friday, February 3, 2017.

Born April 17, 1939, in Wayne Township, PA, he is the son of the late Perry and Clara (Whitehill) Moore, Sr.

Herschel graduated in 1960 from Clay-Battelle High School. He was employed as a laborer in the construction industry for several years prior to his retirement in 1988 when he became ill. Herschel was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church, Waynesburg, PA. He was also a member of the Waynesburg Moose Lodge #461, Waynesburg Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #598 and the Harvey’s Aleppo Grange #1441.

Surviving are his companion and best friend, Lea Gray; seven children, Julie Ann Moore, of Bentleyville, PA, Janie Sue McGinnis, of Ellsworth, PA, Jacqueline Kay (Dale) Patterson, of Mt. Morris, PA, Jodie Lynn (Ron) Banner, of Bradford, RI, Sue (John) Jones, of Jollytown, PA, Connie (Eric) Miller, of Holbrook and Chad (Judy) Gray, of West Finley, PA; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Roxeanna White, of Waynesburg, PA; one brother, Ray Moore, of Jefferson, PA; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Emily Pearl Miller, who passed away in infancy; step-son, Frank Montgomery; sister, Geraldine Schultz; three brothers, Thomas F. Moore, Perry Moore, Jr., and Robert Moore, who was K.I.A. in WWII.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. at the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359. (724) 499-5181. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. with Evangelist Sam Crawford, officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Cemetery, Spraggs, PA.
