Herman J. "Bush" Kerns

Herman J. "Bush" Kerns, 88, of West Alexander, Pa. died unexpectedly, at 9:30 p.m Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in his home with his family by his side.

Mr. Kerns was born April 20, 1928, in Donegal Twp., Washington Co., PA, a son of the late Herman Leslie and Georgia Bernice (Tustin) Kerns.

He was a member of the West Alexander United Methodist Church and the West Alexander American Legion Post 656. 

Mr. Kerns was a 1949 graduate of the former West Alexander High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the U.S. Air Force as an Airman First Class with the 4911th Air Police Squadron.

Mr. Kerns was employed by Precision-Marshall Specialty Steel in Washington, PA. as a machinist/grinder, prior to retiring in 1976, and was the owner and operator of Kerns Tire Service for over 50 years.

He was an original member of the West Alexander Municipal Authority and also served as the caretaker of West Alexander Cemetery for several years.

On May 7, 1960 he married Patricia M. McAdoo who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Lucinda J. Kerns, Centerville, VA, Dr. Randall E. (Barbara) Kerns, Charleston, SC. Debra (Mike) Czulewicz and Brenda Kerns, both of West Alexander; grandchildren, Katie (Lyles) Geer, Hannah and Ali Kerns, Kylie, Rachel, Matthew and Marcus Czulewicz; a great-granddaughter, Mae Geer; a sister Frances Elizabeth (Frank) Garrison of West Alexander.

Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother, Paul L. Kerns.

Friends will be received from 12-8 p.m. Friday, in the West Alexander United Methodist Church, West Alexander, PA, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016, with Rev. Paul Harman, officiating, and Rev. Daniel Grimes assisting. Interment will follow in the West Alexander Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Air Force and the West Alexander American Legion Post 656.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Alexander Methodist Church, P.O. Box 302, West Alexander, PA 15376.
