Ellen L. Mcguier

Ellen L. (Mounts) McGuier, age 87, of Prosperity, PA, passed away at home on Monday, February 20, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 30, 1929, in Washington, PA, she is the daughter of the late Abraham D. and Rosella Landers Mounts.

Ellen graduated in 1947 from Claysville High School. She continued her education at the Indiana State Teachers College and later graduated from Penn Commercial. She worked as the office manager at Penn State Extension Services in Washington, PA for over 20 years. Ellen was a member of the Old Concord Presbyterian Church, where she served for many years as the church elder and treasurer and was actively engaged in many fundraising projects. Ellen was a 50 year member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Spending time with her family and enjoying her grandchildren was above all her greatest joy in life.

She is survived by her husband, James W. McGuier, whom she married on May 30, 1951; four children, Sue Ellen, of Wheeling, WV, James Michael, of Prosperity, PA, Joel Raymond (Kelley), of East Finley, PA, and Jay Allen (Janet) of Taylorstown, PA; and five grandchildren, Matthew (Debbie), Andrew (Natalie), Devin, Ian, and Moriah. She is also survived by a brother, J. Davis (Marion) Mounts of Washington, PA, a brother-in-law, James McCullough of Washington, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Winona (Mounts) McCullough.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 2 P.M.- 4 P.M. and 6 P.M.- 8:30 P.M. at the Old Concord Presbyterian Church, 155 Old Concord Road, Prosperity, PA. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Russ Baird officiating. Burial will follow at Prosperity Cemetery, Prosperity, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Concord Presbyterian Church, 155 Old Concord Road, Prosperity, PA 15329.
