Earl R. Barnhart, 93, of New Freeport, Pa. died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 in his home.He was born May 22, 1914 in Deep Valley, Pa. a son of Dennis and Jenie Whipkey Barnhart and has resided in New Freeport for the past 30 years.Mr. Barnhart was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a PFC with the HQ Co 741st Tank Battalion and was awarded the Good Conduct, American Theater Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign with 4 Bronze Starts, Victory and the World War II Medals. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 120 of Hundred, W.Va.He last employed as a steelworker for J L Steel for 30 years prior to retiring.Surviving are his son, Roy A. Barnhart of Mechanicsville, VA; a step son, Howard E. "Gene" Barnhart of Deep Valley; three granddaughters, Casey Jo Healey, Bobbi Jo Matzganis, and Sammy Jo Barnhart; five great grandchildren.Deceased are five brothers, Robert, James, Hubert, Walter and Ray Edward Barnhart; three sisters, Thelma Moniger, Florence Riggs, and his twin sister, Pearl Wright.
