Donald Stewart Hoge

Donald Stewart Hoge, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in West Alexander on April 18, 2018.

Born November 20, 1925, he is the son of the late Morgan Tilton and Flora (Booth) Hoge.

He was a life member and Trustee of the West Alexander Presbyterian Church for many years. Don graduated from the former West Alexander High School in 1944. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, as Seaman First Class, aboard the USS BellaTrix in the 7th fleet, Pacific Theater and had many fond memories of the time spent in San Diego, CA following the war. Don was a former Director of the West Alexander Fair Association and past President and Director of the West Alexander Cemetery Association. He took great pride in raising beef cattle for most of his life and his grass-fed cattle always sold at a premium. His reputation as a successful farmer was widely known. Don also worked at Brockway Glass Plant #7 in Washington, PA for 30 years and retired in 1983.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Hoge, his parents, Morgan Tilton and Flora (Booth) Hoge, his brothers, Carl and Jim Hoge, and a sister, Frances Stewart.

He is survived by a sister Judy Daly and her husband Philip Daly, of West Alexander, PA., a brother Wayne Hoge and his wife Louise Hoge, of West Alexander, PA., a son Garrett Hoge and his wife Anita Hoge, of Peters Township, PA., and a daughter, Lynne Glessner, and her husband Frank Glessner, of Washington, PA. He had six grandchildren including Garrett Hoge II (Ivorry Hoge), Jessica Hoge (Matt Speakman), Allison Hoge (Adam Kukic), Dana Glessner (J.D. Batove), Amy Glessner Snyder (Nich Snyder), and Erin Glessner McCormick (John McCormick). He was also blessed to have eight great- grandchildren including Westin Stewart Hoge, Cora Anne and Mae Speakman, Nathaniel and Loralie Snyder, Gavin and Evan McCormick, and Jacob Batove.

Friends will be received on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and again on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10 A.M.-12:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. at the West Alexander United Presbyterian Church, 108 Main St., West Alexander, PA 15376, with Rev. Tim Florence, officiating. Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery with full graveside military rites under the direction of the West Alexander American Legion Post #676.
