David F. Thompson

David F. Thompson, age 80, of Wind Ridge, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Hopemont Nursing Facility in Terra Alta, WV from Alzheimer’s.

Born July 26, 1944, in Fairmont, WV., son of the late Harold and Mary (Britton) Thompson.

David had been a Greene County resident most of his life after moving from Fairmont. He attended Clay-Battelle High School. David married Marsha Strawn on October 27, 1984, and they were happily married for 31 years until her passing on February 13, 2016. He was employed with Joe Dune Oil & Gas as a Well Tender for 20 years until his retirement in 2013. David was also employed at the Fairmont Kitchen Center. He owned Dave’s Rock Tavern in Marshall County for 10 years. David enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to socialize.

He is survived by three sons, David Douglas, of Fairmont, WV and Destrey Daniel Thompson, of Wind Ridge, whom he had with his first wife, and Ryan David Thompson, of Cameron, WV, whom he had with Marsha Thompson; six grandchildren, Brittany D., Paige D., Kaylee B., Braedon D., Lane D., and Bentley R. Thompson; two great grandchildren, Landon and Raelynn Leonard; one sister, Mary “Susie” Roush, of Spraggs.

In additions to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by, five brothers, Junior, Gary, Johnny, Kerry, and Billy Thompson.
