Charles C. Coffield, 85, of Graysville, Pa. died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2004 in his home after a brief illness. He was born December 2, 1918 in Limestone, WV. a son of John Robert and Mary Belle Cunningham Coffield and has been a resident of Graysville area since 1942. Mr. Coffield was a member of the Unity Presbyterian Church in Graysville where he was currently serving as a trustee and was a former elder. He was a 1936 graduate of Moundsville High School.Mr. Coffield was a former member of the Graysville V.F.D. He enjoyed fishing, horse back riding and deer hunting and formerly served as a Greene County Game Warden for approximately 15 years. Mr. Coffield was a former employee of the Bronze Casting Company in Benwood, WV. and was a driver and mechanic at Coffield and Carroll Garage and School Buses in Graysville, he was also a former policeman for BO Railroad in Moundsville, WV. Mr. Coffield was last employed as auto mechanic with JCPenney Auto Center, Washington PA for 15 years prior to retiring in 1978. He was a veteran of the US Navy, where he served as an apprentice seaman.On October 10,1939, he married Hazel Jean Bungard Coffield who died February 8, 2003.Surviving are three daughters, Beverly J. Jacobs of Wind Ridge, Leah Jane Robey and Sandra K. Whipkey, both of Graysville; one brother Martin A. Coffield of Waynesburg; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren. Deceased are a son, who died in infancy; a grandson Anthony Jacobs; three brothers Lester, Floyd and Harry Coffield; a sister Else Lilley.The family suggests memorial contributions to the Hospice Care of Washington Hospital Inc., 155 Wilson Ave, Washington Pa. or theUnity Presbyterian Church, Grayville Pa.
